Second cycle of teaching practice - third lesson

Giota and Natassa's lesson concludes the second cycle of teaching practice, so in our first lesson of the New Year, 14 January, we'll all meet for group feedback and planning for the next three weeks' lessons.

Group Feedback

Following discussion of the written feedback on the lessons of the past three weeks, we started planning the next cycle of lessons.

In consultation with Mr Petrogiannis, it was decided that it would be more effective for us to continue using Total English 3 instead of switching to Interchange 3. It was confirmed that although nine students are enrolled for the class, usually only 6, or a maximum of 7, actually attend.

We divided unit 2 as the basis for the next three lessons:
Section 2.1 Afroditi, Joanna and Catherine on 3 December
Section 2.2 Kathy, Kristo and Jonida on 10 December
Section 2.3 Natassa and Giota on 17 December.

Each lesson will be a total of 60 minutes, 12 - 1pm. You must be ready at A9 to start promptly at 12.00.

Feedback will then be in A1, 1 - 3 pm.

It was suggested that the next series of lessons will be recorded on video and played back to support the discussion of the feedback.

Third teaching practice

We have a new group of students, six today but normally nine, and we'll be teaching the last hour of their scheduled class 12 - 1pm.

Their level is pre-intermediate, very similar to the previous group. We'll be using the book Interchange 3 with them.

Next week we'll have a group feedback session on the first three lessons, then start planning the next three weeks' lessons.

Second Teaching Practice

We are looking at a number of options to resolve the problem that occurred with student attendance for the teaching practice. This will be finalized by mid-week.

First Teaching Practice

Afroditi, Catherine and Joanna each taught for 30 minutes today.

The level of the students was generally what we expected, and so the materials we have chosen were appropriate and worked well for most of them. We had 12 students at this level, but also two complete beginners who weren't really able to participate, and one who has already passed the proficiency exam who naturally felt that the activities were too easy.

Overall, a successful start to the teaching, and we'll be continuing to use the same materials as planned.

Teaching Practice Preparation

Those of you who missed the class today will need to ensure that you are prepared to teach your allocated section of Total English Pre-Intermediate:

For 5 November
A Aphrodite - your own introductory materials
B Catherine - pages 5 -6
C Joanna - page 7

For 12 November
D Kathy - page 8
E Cristo - page 9
F Jonida - page 10

For 19 November
G Giota - page 11
H Natassa - pages 12 & 14

You must submit a copy of your detailed lesson plan before the lesson.

You are also responsible for ensuring that you have enough copies of all your materials for the 15 students. Remember, the students do not have books, they will only have the materials that you provide for them.
